ABSTRACT

Amantadine has begun to be used as a possible alternative in COVID-19 therapy to mitigate its effects. There is anecdotal evidence that patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) treated with amantadine and who test positive for COVID-19 often do not develop clinical manifestations of COVID-19. Objective(s): to compare the clinical course of COVID-19 in patients with PD who took or did not take amantadine sulfate. Patients and methods. A prospective continuous study included 142 patients with PD who were treated in Republican Clinical Diagnostic Center for Extrapyramidal Pathology and Botulinum Therapy in Kazan from October 2021 to January 2022. Patients filled out a proprietary internally developed questionnaire. Results and discussion. Out of 142 individuals with PD COVID-19 occurred in 77 (54.2%), of which 52.0% had a mild course, 39.0% had a moderate course, 2.6% had a severe course, and in 6.5% the severity of the disease has not been established. Deterioration after COVID-19 infection was noted by 36% of patients: the appearance or increase in motor fluctuations (41%), increased tremor, stiffness or slowness (31%), the appearance of "exhaustion" of the effect of a single dose of levodopa (13%), the appearance or increased dyskinesia (21%), hallucinations (3.5%). Patients taking amantadine sulfate had PD much longer (11.5+/-5.62 years versus 5.12+/-3.24 years) and had a more pronounced (III-IV) stage of the disease. These patients were more likely to experience mild COVID-19 (in 60.87% of cases), in contrast to patients not receiving amantadine sulfate (only in 48.15% of cases). There was no correlation between the severity of COVID-19 and levodopa intake. Conclusion. The results of the study showed that patients with PD taking amantadine sulfate are more likely to have a mild course of COVID-19.Copyright © 2022 Ima-Press Publishing House. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

This chapter covers three distinct themes that encompass the concept of burnout warning: inherent adversities in the modality shift, fear and ambiguity in higher education, and attempting to work in suboptimal conditions. While thriving represents a concept that denotes success and achievement, burnout represents exhaustion and fatigue. The behavior exhibited by staff and its correlation to burnout is best explained by the works of Maslach and Leiter using the areas of worklife (AW) model entailing organizational risk factors. The AW model explains how burnout is expedited when there is a disruption to balance in the following areas: workload, control, reward, community, fairness, and values. The findings indicate that staff members at the University of Utah displayed early signs of burnout warning. The factors that contribute to early signals of burnout include resource shortages, an increase in overall workload-including persistent emotional labor-and a lack of acknowledgement. The chapter illustrates how stressors, aggravated by COVID fatigue, fostered an environment that mobilized the onset of burnout. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a fatal pandemic viral disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus type-2 (SARS-CoV-2). The aim of this study is to observe the associations of IL-6, SARS-COV-2 viral load (RNAemia), IL- 6 gene polymorphism and lymphocytes and monocytes in peripheral blood with disease severity in COVID-19 patients. This study was carried out from March 2021 to January 2022. RT-PCR positive 84 COVID-19 patients and 28 healthy subjects were enrolled. Blood was collected to detect SARS-COV-2 viral RNA (RNAemia) by rRT-PCR, serum IL-6 level by chemiluminescence method, SNPs of IL-6 by SSP-PCR, immunophenotyping of lymphocytes and monocyte by flow cytometry. Serum IL-6 level (pg/ml) was considerably high among critical patients (102.02 +/- 149.7) compared to severe (67.20 +/- 129.5) and moderate patients (47.04 +/- 106.5) and healthy controls (3.5 +/- 1.8). Serum SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid positive cases detected mostly in critical patients (39.28%) and was correlated with extremely high IL-6 level and high mortality (R =.912, P < 0.001). Correlation between IL-6 and monocyte was statistically significant with disease severity (severe group, p < 0.001, and 0.867*** and critical group p < 0.001 and 0.887***). In healthy controls, moderate, severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients, IL-6 174G/C (rs 1800795) GG genotype was 82.14%, 89.20%, 67.85% and 53.57% respectively. CC and GC genotype had strong association with severity of COVID-19 when compared with GG genotype. Significant statistical difference found in genotypes between critical and moderate groups (p < 0.001, OR-10.316, CI-3.22-23.86), where CC genotype was associated with COVID-19 severity and mortality. The absolute count of T cell, B cell, NK cell, CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells were significantly decreased in critical group compared to healthy, moderate and severe group (P < 0.001). Exhaustion marker CD94/NKG2A was increased on NK cells and CD8+ cytotoxic T cell among critical and severe group. Absolute count of monocyte was significantly increased in critical group (P < 0.001). Serum IL-6, IL-6 174 G/C gene and SARS-CoV-2 RNAaemia can be used in clinical practice for risk assessment;T cell subsets and monocyte as biomarkers for monitoring COVID-19 severity. Monoclonal antibody targeting IL-6 receptor and NKG2A for therapeutics may prevent disease progression and decrease morbidity and mortality.Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc.

ABSTRACT

PurposeIn the new post-COVID-19 work order, this study aims to examine whether and how individual-level social distancing interacts with workgroup-level socio-affective support to influence employee exhaustion and performance.Design/methodology/approachMulti-level analyses of time-lagged multi-source data from 231 employees nested in 34 workgroups were conducted to test our hypothesized relationships.FindingsAnalyses revealed a significant relationship between social distancing and employee performance via emotional exhaustion. Further, the positive relationship between social distancing and emotional exhaustion was attenuated by workgroup team orientation and support for innovation, and the indirect effect of social distancing on employee performance was weaker in workgroups with a high team orientation and high support for innovation.Originality/valueThis study extends the job demands-resources theory to the new work order and examines the impact of workplace social distancing on employee outcomes in the context of workgroup membership.

ABSTRACT

Burnout rates of correctional employees are higher than employees in the general public. The purpose of this study was to identify how occupational factors impact burnout rates among correctional mental health workers. Grounded in the job-demands theoretical model, this study compared burnout rates among mental health staff within county jails and state prisons. Burnout was measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory and Occupational factors were measured using the Areas of Work life Survey and Pandemic Experience and Perception Survey. Data was analyzed using IBM SSPS software to address multiple a priori directional research questions. Research questions considered how occupational factors impact burnout of this population. Key results indicated no significant difference in burnout rates among mental health providers, though found "workload" and "control" to be significant predictors of emotional exhaustion in both jails and prisons, and "reward" a significant predictor of personal accomplishment in prisons. "Risk perception" and "work life" were predictors of emotional exhaustion during a global pandemic. Future studies should expand the research on the variable "workload" with burnout and consider utilizing the demographic data collected to identify additional correlations. Implications for positive social change include prevention of burnout in correctional settings resulting in lower staff turnover, improved staff quality of life, and increased quality of treatment. ABSTRACT

Purpose:We aimed to evaluate the levels of Burnout Syndrome (BS) in Agricultural Sciences students, both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic period.Design/methodology/approach:We accessed 77 students for Burnout Syndrome using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS) on two occasions, the first in February and the second in October 2020. Sixty-three students completed both phases. The data were analyzed in a mixed factorial scheme (Three-way ANOVA;p < 0.05).Findings:Academic efficacy improved over time without interference of sex or physical activity frequency (p < 0.001). The emotional exhaustion domain significantly reduced over time in women who declared to practice physical activity (p = 0.037). A similar effect was observed in both men and women for the cynicism domain (p < 0.001). Online teaching strategies and the regular practice of exercise were associated to reduced levels of BS during the pandemic.Practical implications:The adoption of the emergency remote education system (ERE) associated with the practice of exercise can mitigate the harmful effects of the COVID-19 quarantine on the mental health of students.Theoretical implications:The ERE can be an effective strategy to mitigate BS levels in Agricultural Science students in the post-pandemic period.Originality/Value:This is the first study that presents results of BS in students of Agricultural Sciences, comparing before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background & Aim: Amniotic fluid (AF)-derived EVs are currently under investigation for use as anti-inflammatory therapeutics in COVID-19 and COVID-19 long haulers. The dysregulation of the immune response induced by SARS-COV-2 is a key driver of both acute COVID-19 induced lung injury and long term COVID-19 sequela. There is a clear need to identify therapeutics that suppress excessive inflammation and reduce immune cell exhaustion to improve patient short term and long-term outcomes. Amniotic fluid (AF)- derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) have previously been shown to deliver anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory signals to diverse cellular targets. We aimed to test if AF-EVs carry immune-suppressive molecules and can suppress T-cell immune activation and exhaustion in vitro. Methods, Results & Conclusion(s): The AF-EV biologic tested was derived from AF collected from consenting donors during planned, fullterm cesarean sections. AF was centrifuged and filtered to remove cellular debris and create a product containing AF-EVs and soluble extracellular components. Fluorescent EXODOT analysis was performed to demonstrate the presence of EV markers CD9, CD81, ALIX, and immune suppressive molecule PD-L1. T-cell activation/exhaustion was induced in vitro by treating human peripheral blood mononuclear cells with activation agent PHA for 3 days with the addition of AF-EVs or saline control. Immune activation/exhaustion was measured by flow cytometry to determine the expression of PD-1 on CD3+ T-cells. The AF-EV biologic was characterized to contain EVs with positive expression of CD9, CD81, ALIX, and PL-L1. T-cell activation/exhaustion was upregulated in response to PHA and was significantly reduced by 8% in AF-EV treated T-cells compared to saline control (77.7% vs 85.7%, respectively P<0.05). These findings demonstrate that AF-EVs do express PD-L1, a surface marker that has previously been demonstrated to contribute to exosome-mediated immunosuppression. Furthermore, we confirmed in vitro that AF-EVs suppress T-cell activation/ exhaustion in the presence of a T-cell activation agent. COVID-19 long haulers have been described to have upregulated and pro-longed immune activation and T-cell exhaustion, marked by an increase in PD1+ T-cells. Therefore, this finding serves as a starting point for the development of a potential mechanism of action that may describe AF-EV's therapeutic effect in COVID-19 long hauler patients.Copyright © 2023 International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy

ABSTRACT

The physical aspects of ultrasonography, difficult posture with prolonged pressure exertion, have been extensively researched and addressed with advances in machine ergonomics, operator awareness of posture and positioning and workplace tools to identify musculoskeletal problems. The mental stresses are less well recognized and have only recently started getting investigated. Ultrasonography is a mentally challenging activity requiring long periods of intense concentration, empathy and communication of complex and often difficult information to patients and clinicians, all of which carries an emotional toll. Practitioners are also under increasing time and caseload pressures exacerbated by COVID recovery and chronic fatigue from two years of pandemic. A survey of UK obstetric sonographers showed 92.1% and 91.0% met the burnout thresholds for exhaustion and disengagement, respectively).1 While many Trusts provide training to support physical health, few radiology departments educate their staff on emotional resilience or offer regular support to either promote or maintain mental wellbeing. Training, when available, is often focused on the receiver and not on the impact of vicarious traumas experienced as a result of repeatedly discovering/delivering difficult outcomes to patients on a regular and prolonged basis. Few health professionals are face-to-face with their patient at point of significant discovery whether that information is imparted to the patient or not. Mental health professionals have adopted a traumainformed stance into their working practices. This has not only informed the direct clinical work with patients but is also evident in the way the workforce is supported by the trust. Regular supervision, reflective practice and debriefs are required and monitored by the trust, based on research in clinical psychology to inform best practice. Some of these practices could be applied to physical health professionals to address some of the emotional burdens experienced as part of day-to-day delivery of care.

ABSTRACT

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the process of digital transformation in organisations and has considerably increased the exposure to and dependence of employees on Information and Communication Technologies, which may lead them to experience a negative psychological state known as technostress. This work analyses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing technological exposure of employees to emotional exhaustion and work-family conflict. It also analyses the role that social support and mindfulness play as mechanisms that inhibit technostress in a context of health emergency. For this purpose, the authors develop and test a structural equation model on a sample of 1037 employees of the banking industry in Spain. The results show that the techno-stressors increase emotional exhaustion and the work-family conflict. We also observe that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a positive impact on the perception of techno-stressors and on emotional exhaustion. In addition, the results show that social support and mindfulness play a crucial role in diminishing technostress, as they reduce the perceived COVID-19 impact, techno-stressors and emotional exhaustion. Consequently, this work presents very relevant implications for organisations, identifying strategies that allow to reduce technostress and work-family conflict. ABSTRACT

Commercially available human platelet lysate (hPL) is produced using expired human platelets obtained from accredited blood banks in the United States. These platelets were originally intended for use in patient transfusion. The safety of platelets used in transfusion is managed by the U.S. Food Drug Administration (FDA), as well as the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). These organizations set standards, including testing for transmissible diseases. The United States record for blood safety is well established, with extremely low rates of disease transmission, making the platelet units used for hPL manufacture low risk. The Covid-19 pandemic has increased awareness of emerging infectious diseases, even though transmission of Covid-19 via blood transfusion has not been documented. For that reason, gamma irradiated hPL offers an additional safety measure in the clinic. Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) expressing T-cells have demonstrated potent clinical efficacy in patients with hematological malignancies. In addition, there are several phase I clinical trials evaluating the use of CAR-T-cells for targeting of solid tumorassociated antigens. Some of the challenging issues found during production of CAR-T cells are the efficiency of T cell transduction to generate CAR-T cells, the expansion of T cells to clinically relevant numbers and the long-term survival in vivo of the therapeutic cells. The use of human platelet lysate has been demonstrated to improve these issues. Our data from experiments performed using human CD3+ from donors demonstrates that human platelet lysates offer an improved performance on T cell expansion versus serum derived products. hPL efficiently promotes T cell expansion, with higher cell yields and lower cell exhaustion rate. Additionally, we efficiently developed a protocol for suspension culture of T cells, which could facilitate the large-scale expansion of allogeneic CAR-T cells.

ABSTRACT

Respiratory viral infections (RVI) such as influenza and COVID19 impact the host systemic immune system along with causing deleterious chronic inflammatory responses and respiratory distress. While the role of chronic inflammation in cancer is well-established, the role of RVI on tumorigenesis is poorly defined. To study the role of RVI on breast cancer, we first infected murine respiratory epithelial cells (mRES) with murine sendai virus (mSV), an analog for human parainfluenza virus. These infected mRES were co-cultured with 4T1 murine breast cancer cells in 1:1 dilution on a single 2D plate and also in trans-well format. Both in co-culture and transwell culture we saw a 40- 80% (p<0.05) increased proliferation of breast cancer cells. Similarly, when 4T1 cells were treated with the supernatant collected from infected mRES cells in 1:5 dilution, also demonstrated a 2.3 fold increased breast cancer cell proliferation. The cytokine analysis from the supernatant collected from infected mRES cells demonstrated a 17-23 fold enhanced secretion of alpha/beta-defensins. Direct treatment of alpha-defensin (cyptidin-4, 10 pg/mL) and beta-defensin-3 (mBD3, 20 pg/mL) on 4T1 cells demonstrated enhanced expression of chemokine metastatic receptor, CXCR4 (4.3 fold), angiogenic factor, VEGF (12.8 fold) and cell division favoring factor, CDK2 (8.1 fold). Further, analysis of infected mRES cells demonstrated upregulation of toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and NODlike receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) expression. Interesting, co-cultured of infected mRES with syngeneic murine CD4 T cells induced exhaustion phenotype (PD1+ and CTLA4+ ) differentiation of CD4 T cells. Taken together, these data suggest that respiratory viral infections through induction of cancer cell proliferation and inhibiting anti-tumor adaptive immune responses promote breast cancer proliferation.

COVID-19, which infects millions of people worldwide, can affect many organs and systems, mainly the lungs, heart, brain, kidneys, vascular endothelium and bone marrow. As a result, it causes a wide range of complications such as ARDS, acute coronary syndrome, delirium, pancytopenia, DIC, kidney damage. There-fore, in the presence of COVID-19, some diseases that progress rapidly and which can cause similar complications may be concealed. In our article, we aimed to describe a patient who was missed due to the adverse effects of the pandemic period and because the COVID-19 infection may cause similar findings, although he admitted to emergency clinic twice before. In a pancytopenic patient suffering from intermittent fever, exhaustion, myalgia and arthralgia for several months, the diagnosis of small cell lung cancer, bone marrow metastasis and Lambert Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS) was delayed due to the presence of COVID-19 infection. Therefore, the patient died in a short time. It was presented because it is a rare case and can lead to serious consequences if not imagined.Copyright © 2021, Derman Medical Publishing. This research examines the influence that emotional distress, socially demanding contexts, and the coronavirus pandemic have had on the mental health of young adults. It highlights how active engagement in one's mental health can help mitigate the negative influence of emotional distress on mental health. A research model outlines the importance of mental health engagement in combating and controlling mental health symptoms. Implications from findings underscore the significance of creating a culture that assigns parity to both mental and physical healthcare. Direction is offered for healthcare providers in fostering mental health engagement by promoting mental health literacy and increasing access.

INTRODUCTION: Severe COVID-19 can result in a significant and irreversible impact on long-term recovery and subsequent immune protection. Understanding the complex immune reactions may be useful for establishing clinically relevant monitoring. METHODS: Hospitalized adults with SARS-CoV-2 between March/October 2020 (n = 64) were selected. Cryopreserved peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and plasma samples were obtained at hospitalization (baseline) and 6 months after recovery. Immunological components' phenotyping and SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cell response were studied in PBMCs by flow cytometry. Up to 25 plasma pro/anti-inflammatory cytokines/chemokines were assessed by LEGENDplex immunoassays. The SARS-CoV-2 group was compared to matched healthy donors. RESULTS: Biochemical altered parameters during infection were normalized at a follow-up time point in the SARS-CoV-2 group. Most of the cytokine/chemokine levels were increased at baseline in the SARS-CoV-2 group. This group showed increased Natural Killer cells (NK) activation and decreased CD16high NK subset, which normalized six months later. They also presented a higher intermediate and patrolling monocyte proportion at baseline. T cells showed an increased terminally differentiated (TemRA) and effector memory (EM) subsets distribution in the SARS-CoV-2 group at baseline and continued to increase six months later. Interestingly, T-cell activation (CD38) in this group decreased at the follow-up time point, contrary to exhaustion markers (TIM3/PD1). In addition, we observed the highest SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cell magnitude response in TemRA CD4 T-cell and EM CD8 T-cell subsets at the six-months time point. CONCLUSIONS: The immunological activation in the SARS-CoV-2 group during hospitalization is reversed at the follow-up time point. However, the marked exhaustion pattern remains over time. This dysregulation could constitute a risk factor for reinfection and the development of other pathologies. Additionally, high SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cells response levels appear to be associated with infection severity.

Background: The role of respiratory viruses in chronic otitis media with effusion (COME) in children is not clearly defined. In our study we aimed to investigate the detection of respiratory viruses in middle ear effusions (MEE) as well as the association with local bacteria, respiratory viruses in the nasopharynx and cellular immune response of children with COME. Methods: This 2017-2019 cross-sectional study included 69 children aged 2-6 undergoing myringotomy for COME. MEE and nasopharyngeal swabs were analyzed via PCR and CT-values for the genome and loads of typical respiratory viruses. Immune cell populations and exhaustion markers in MEE related to respiratory virus detection were studied via FACS. Clinical data including the BMI was correlated. Results: Respiratory viruses were detected in MEE of 44 children (64%). Rhinovirus (43%), Parainfluenzavirus (26%) and Bocavirus (10%) were detected most frequently. Average Ct values were 33.6 and 33.5 in MEE and nasopharynx, respectively. Higher detection rates correlated with elevated BMI. Monocytes were elevated in MEE (9.5 ± 7.3%/blood leucocytes). Exhaustion markers were elevated on CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and monocytes in MEE. Conclusion: Respiratory viruses are associated with pediatric COME. Elevated BMI was associated with increased rates of virus associated COME. Changes in cell proportions of innate immunity and expression of exhaustion markers may be related to chronic viral infection.

ABSTRACT

Adults and children exhibit a broad range of clinical outcomes from SARS-CoV-2 infection, with minimal to mild symptoms, especially in the pediatric age. However, some children present with a severe hyperinflammatory post-infectious complication named multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), mainly affecting previously healthy subjects. Understanding these differences is still an ongoing challenge, that can lead to new therapeutic strategies and avoid unfavorable outcomes. In this review, we discuss the different roles of T lymphocyte subsets and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in the immune responses of adults and children. Lymphopenia can influence these responses and represent a good predictor for the outcome, as reported by most authors. The increased IFN-γ response exhibited by children could be the starting point for the activation of a broad response that leads to MIS-C, with a significantly higher risk than in adults, although a single IFN signature has not been identified. Multicenter studies with large cohorts in both age groups are still needed to study SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis with new tools and to understand how is possible to better modulate immune responses.

ABSTRACT

Amantadine has begun to be used as a possible alternative in COVID-19 therapy to mitigate its effects. There is anecdotal evidence that patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) treated with amantadine and who test positive for COVID-19 often do not develop clinical manifestations of COVID-19. Objective(s): to compare the clinical course of COVID-19 in patients with PD who took or did not take amantadine sulfate. Patients and methods. A prospective continuous study included 142 patients with PD who were treated in Republican Clinical Diagnostic Center for Extrapyramidal Pathology and Botulinum Therapy in Kazan from October 2021 to January 2022. Patients filled out a proprietary internally developed questionnaire. Results and discussion. Out of 142 individuals with PD COVID-19 occurred in 77 (54.2%), of which 52.0% had a mild course, 39.0% had a moderate course, 2.6% had a severe course, and in 6.5% the severity of the disease has not been established. Deterioration after COVID-19 infection was noted by 36% of patients: the appearance or increase in motor fluctuations (41%), increased tremor, stiffness or slowness (31%), the appearance of "exhaustion" of the effect of a single dose of levodopa (13%), the appearance or increased dyskinesia (21%), hallucinations (3.5%). Patients taking amantadine sulfate had PD much longer (11.5+/-5.62 years versus 5.12+/-3.24 years) and had a more pronounced (III-IV) stage of the disease. These patients were more likely to experience mild COVID-19 (in 60.87% of cases), in contrast to patients not receiving amantadine sulfate (only in 48.15% of cases). There was no correlation between the severity of COVID-19 and levodopa intake. Conclusion. The results of the study showed that patients with PD taking amantadine sulfate are more likely to have a mild course of COVID-19.Copyright © 2022 Ima-Press Publishing House. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Virus infections continue to pose a substantial threat to human health. A prime example is the ongoing 2019 coronavirus pandemic caused by the novel virus SARS-CoV-2. Unraveling the intricacies of immune defenses against viruses should lead to improved control of infections through the design of new vaccines and therapies. Our understanding of the fundamental cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the immune system's response to virus infection has improved substantially in recent years. This wealth of new information and the promise of new insight from systems biology approaches continue to drive research in this field. Such knowledge has revealed why viruses sometimes induce immune dysfunction or trigger disastrous pathology and has paved the way for new therapies being tested against chronic and emerging infections. In this chapter, we briefly summarize the general concepts in immunity to virus infections and highlight some of the key challenges remaining for the future. Virus infections continue to pose a substantial threat to human health, and many cannot be controlled effectively with current vaccines or antiviral approaches. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. The COVID-19 crisis has drastically affected organizations worldwide, thereby influencing the employees' psychological wellbeing. Since it is a new pandemic, research is sparse in the domain of employees' psychological wellbeing in relation to the phenomenon. Drawing on social support and job demand-resource perspectives, this research adds to the factors affecting employees' wellbeing due to the coronavirus outbreak. Specifically, this study is an investigation of co-workers' instrumental support in predicting employees' emotional exhaustion via employees' perceived uncertainties experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, we tested for the contextual specificity of family support on uncertainties and its link with employees' emotional exhaustion. With data drawn from two universities (n = 275), the findings reveal a negative association between co-worker task support and an employee's emotional exhaustion, and an employee's perceived uncertainties mediate this relationship. Moreover, the moderating analysis exhibits that family support mitigates the negative effect of uncertainty perception on emotional exhaustion. Our study reveals that coworker and family support are extremely important during the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings are equally valuable for organizations and society to mitigate the detrimental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on employees' wellbeing.
